Report: Celtic to scout teenage striker Johnny Kenny
The summer transfer window may have only just closed but Celtic are not planning to take a step back from recruitment anytime soon it seems, with The Irish Independent reporting that they plan to scout young striker Johnny Kenny on Friday.
The Hoops were one of the busier sides during the summer. And they were bringing players in right up until the final moments of the window.
It appears to have been a positive window for Ange Postecoglou’s side. They have lost key men.
But their exits were all on the cards with contracts expiring. And in their places, Celtic appear to have landed some real gems.
And it would seem that they are already turning their attention to next January.
According to The Irish Independent, the Bhoys want Sligo Rovers teenager Kenny. And they are planning to scout the 18-year-old on Friday when his side face Drogheda United.
The report notes that Celtic have been monitoring the forward throughout the year. And his contract expires at the end of next season.
Kenny has scored six goals in 23 games in all competitions for Sligo. That included a strike in a Europa Conference League qualifier this term.
The report adds that Celtic are also admirers of Drogheda youngster Killian Phillips. So the scouting mission could prove to be extremely fruitful.
Celtic continuing to target exciting young players amid Johnny Kenny links
Postecoglou has brought in a raft of players this summer at various stages of their career. But the majority look to have arrived with one eye on the future.
It remains to be seen if they make a move for Kenny in January. But it is encouraging that the Hoops are continuing to scour the market.
