Celtic are expecting to sign a new goalkeeper this week, according to a report in the Scottish Daily Mail (20/7, back page).
The Hoops have lost Craig Gordon this summer, the Scotland international opting to join Hearts after his contract at Parkhead expired.
Fraser Forster, meanwhile, has returned to parent club Southampton and it looks as though Celtic have missed out on the 6ft 7in giant.
The Bhoys have been linked with several keepers over the past few months, including Vasilios Barkas, David Marshall and Joe Hart.
Now, the Scottish Daily Mail claims that a goalkeeper – whose identity is unclear at this stage – is heading to Parkhead on loan, with Celtic hopeful of getting the deal signed off this week.
On Monday, ahead of the pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain, Neil Lennon told reporters that “we are working on a number of options” regarding a new goalkeeper.
“Hopefully there may be something this week,” the Celtic boss is quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying.
With Scott Bain the only senior goalkeeper on Celtic’s books, the position is in urgent need of bolstering ahead of arguably the most crucial and high-pressure season in Celtic’s recent history.
It remains to be seen who could be joining, but given the report matches with Lennon’s hint, it looks as though an announcement could well be on its way.
