Report: Celtic to complete £3.4m deal in next 24 hours
The Daily Record claim that Ange Postecoglou could make his first really meaningful signing, today. The Celtic gaffer could complete a £3.4million move to sign Liel Abada from Maccabi Petah Tikva on Wednesday. The Record said on Tuesday night a deal could be done in 24 hours.
One-time Israel international Abada, 19, has caught the eye with his current club after a stunning 2020-21 campaign. He scored 13 goals and created four more in 38 appearances, despite being used out wide more often than as a striker. Celtic should now pounce, beating Club Brugge to his signature.
The report says Abada could come in before Thursday’s Champions League qualifying deadline. A previous report from the Record stated that Abada is likely to sign a four-year deal at Parkhead, until June 2025. It sees Celtic finally bring in a first-team signing, though Abada is still only 19.
Can Abada ease Celtic supporters’ concerns – amid potential Wednesday signing?
There is no doubting that Abada has talent. His record, even in Israeli football, is very strong. Celtic like to use the Israeli scouting pool to bring in players – Nir Bitton, Efe Ambrose, Beram Kayal etc. Abada is a proper talent and has all the attributes to thrive at Celtic – but is he what they need?
But is he a signing that will instantly improve Celtic? Is he a player that will instantly be thrown into the starting line-up? Probably not. Celtic need signings now, with Postecoglou desperately needing additions in most positions. Abada is a start, but he hardly eases the pressure on Celtic.
