According to Sky Sports, Celtic are edging ever closer to agreeing to a deal with West Ham to bring Albian Ajeti to Scotland.
The move has been on and off for a number of weeks now but it appears that Neil Lennon has stepped in to convince the Swiss striker to make the move north of the border.
Ajeti will reportedly sign a season-long loan deal with the Bhoys. The deal could also include an agreement that would see Celtic pay around £5m to acquire his services on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign.
The move for the Swiss forward comes on the back of a poor season with the Hammers which saw him fail to register a single goal or assist for the Premier League outfit.
He’ll be hoping, then, to hit the ground running with Celtic and take some of the pressure of Odsonne Edouard up top. Furthermore, he could also end up being the main man, with a number of top European sides said to be keen on Edouard.
Finally over the line, Celtic will be hoping it’s worth it…but it could be risky – TBR View
Neil Lennon must clearly see something in the West Ham despite his nightmare season last time out. So, if the manager wants him, then who are we to question.
However, on paper, it looks a risky move given Ajeti’s record. Given how many goals Edouard scores, it won’t exactly be a move that inspires confidence in Bhoys fans should their star man leave Celtic Park.
But, Celtic fans will have to trust in Lennon. Sometimes things just don’t work out and a fresh start could well be exactly what Ajeti needs to get going in his career again.
