According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic have told Odsonne Edouard’s advisors that they will not consider selling the Frenchman until the summer as his list of admirers grows.
The 21-year-old has scored nine goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for the Hoops this season. This international break has seen Edouard take his tally for France’s under-21s to nine goals in just four appearances.
The Daily Record reports that five clubs across Europe are interested in Edouard. Borussia Dortmund, Lyon, Lazio, Roma and Napoli all reportedly want the former Paris Saint-Germain ace.
The Record adds however, that Celtic have told those close to Edouard that he is going nowhere in January. And he will have to wait until, at least, the summer before leaving Parkhead.
It is noted that Edouard is currently happy at Celtic. So the Bhoys’ reported stance may make a lot of sense as far as he is concerned.
TBR View – Edouard doesn’t need to rock the boat
Even if Edouard became tempted by the prospect of a January move, he should arguably hold on until the summer. Leaving Celtic midway through the season is not going to be easy.
The Record suggests that Celtic could demand a record-breaking fee for Edouard. With Moussa Dembélé leaving – for one of Edouard’s current admirers, Lyon – for £20 million, and Kieran Tierney going for £5 million more, the pressure will certainly be on the youngster.
That pressure would also be there if he left in the summer. But he does not need to worry about hitting the ground running quite as much if he goes before pre-season.
The interested clubs are unlikely to be going anywhere. So Edouard should arguably be focused on enjoying another outstanding season with the Hoops, and ensuring that his value is as high as possible by the time next summer arrives.
