Celtic are seemingly facing a battle to hold onto one of their brightest prospects, with The Scottish Sun reporting that Crystal Palace want to take young striker Michael Sparkes on trial.
The 17-year-old has played for the Hoops’ under-18s, and has also represented Scotland and Wales at youth level.
The Scottish Sun reports that he was awarded a professional contract in June 2018. But it appears that he could soon be offered the chance to make a move away from Parkhead.
According to The Scottish Sun, he will go on trial with the Eagles this week after attracting the attention of the Premier League side.
TBR View – Sparkes would be taking gamble leaving Celtic
Palace are arguably in need of more quality up front. But obviously, Sparkes is likely to be some way off being ready for the first-team fold whether he stays at Celtic or moves on.
He could be forgiven for being very tempted by the chance to move to the Premier League.
But perhaps it would arguably be a gamble to leave the Hoops.
Celtic have a number of exciting prospects coming through right now. Karamoko Dembele is the obvious name that springs to mind, but there are other names to look out for such as Luca Connell and Leo Hjelde.
Having players like that around him may help Sparkes take his game to the next level when he is playing for the reserves. And from there, he can perhaps target a first-team spot.
