Celtic may have to brace themselves for an offer for one of their players coming from Real Madrid, with Spanish outlet Defensa Central reporting that Los Blancos want Odsonne Edouard.
Like many of his teammates, Edouard has arguably not been as impressive for the Hoops this season as he has been in previous times.
Nevertheless, the Frenchman has still managed to score 12 times in all competitions. He is currently on a run of six goals in his last 11 games.
Celtic fans have been under no illusions regarding what the future holds for Edouard. The Bhoys have done some outstanding business in recent years when it comes to selling their key players for major profits.
And the smart money would suggest that the 23-year-old may be one of the next the club lose. As noted by Defensa Central, his contract at Parkhead expires at the end of next season.
Celtic have been unable to agree fresh terms with the striker. And it now appears that their task of trying to convince him to stay may have just got considerably harder.
According to Defensa Central, Zinedine Zidane has recommended his countryman to Madrid. And it is suggested that they may move for Edouard should their more ambitious targets prove unobtainable.
The report notes that Celtic are starting to get to the stage where they are resigned to losing Edouard. And it is suggested that they could be willing to let him leave for a fee of up to £22.25 million (€25 million).
The report claims that Celtic were looking for a figure of at least £44.5 million last summer. So obviously, their asking price seems to have halved.
TBR View: Cashing in this summer may be the right thing for Celtic to do
The coming months could prove to be pivotal in Celtic’s history. As things stand, it looks unlikely that they are going to win the league title this year.
While they will not throw in the towel, their focus should largely be on next season and how they will bounce back.
It may be that they decide to keep Edouard for next term and risk losing him for nothing in 2022. However, Celtic need to seriously consider cashing in this summer if a good offer comes in.
Replacing Edouard at any point will not be easy. But it will be a much easier task with over £20 million coming in as he says goodbye.
