Celtic star Scott Brown is reportedly set to be offered a new one-year contract, according to the Daily Record.

The Bhoys captain has been linked with a switch to the Aberdeen dugout as player-coach, with Stephen Glass said to be the frontrunner for the manager’s job.

It is believed that Brown has been approached to work with his friend and former Hibs teammate, and the Hoops icon is very much interested in the offer.

Celtic’s hierarchy are set to hold further talks with Brown, who is out of contract at the end of the season, and the Daily Record believes a fresh playing deal will be put on the table.

And Brown reportedly wants to continue playing, but he doesn’t want a bit-part role at the club.

With Celtic currently managerless, the 35-year-old won’t know what his Parkhead future holds until the club appoints a new boss.

If it becomes clear that Brown will be pushed to the fringes of the Celtic squad, then he could well decide to look for a new challenge, added the report.

TBR View:

Brown has been nothing short of sensational for Celtic over the years and his place in the Parkhead history books is as assured as can be.

However, he’s had his struggles this season – though he’s by no means the only player to have experienced this.

The Hoops have become a shadow of their former selves and there’s a lot of work to be done in the summer to rebuild the team.

Will the new manager have faith that Brown can get back to his best and assist in Celtic’s return to form next season? That remains to be seen.
