Celtic have reportedly rekindled their interest in Christian Atsu, according to SportsworldGhana.

The Hoops, who were said to be keen on the Newcastle winger back in January, have reportedly asked about his availability this summer, claims the Ghanaian outlet.

It is also reported that the Magpies are willing to cash in on the £30,000-a-week ace – whose contract expires next year – in the coming weeks.

According to the Glasgow Times, the Hoops sought to sign Atsu on deadline day seven months ago, but the player opted to stay and fight for a place in the Newcastle line-up.

Since then, the 28-year-old has failed to win a spot in Steve Bruce’s squad, with just six minutes of game time since the English Premier League returned to action in June.

While Atsu may have struggled for game time at Newcastle, his experience in top leagues, not to mention 60 Ghana caps and 10 goals, plus appearances at the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations, show that he’s certainly got plenty to offer.

He has had his flashes of brilliance in the Premier League too, his impressive appearance off the bench for Newcastle against Spurs in August 2019 – during which he provided an assist for Joelinton’s winner – coming for praise by Robbie Keane.

“I thought he was brilliant,” Keane told Sky Sports Premier League (25/8/19, 6:43pm). “He wasn’t scared to get at people, he’s very, very confident in possession. Great first touch here, this sets up the goal.”

Providing the finances involved are within Celtic’s budget, Atsu would certainly be a great addition for the Bhoys in their quest for 10 In A Row.
