Report: Celtic reject two £10m offers for defender Kristoffer Ajer
Celtic have reportedly rejected two offers for their big defender, Kristoffer Ajer, with Norwich and Bayer Leverkusen seeing bids knocked back.
A report from the Daily Record makes the claim, suggesting that Celtic have turned down two bids of £10m for Ajer already.
The report focuses on the future of a number of players. Ajer is one of them, while Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie are the other two mentioned.
Ajer is a man in-demand this summer it seems. He is said to be open to leaving Parkhead, and Bayern Leverkusen had already registered their interest a few weeks back.
23-year-old Ajer has won three titles while with Celtic. A full Norway international with 23 caps already, Ajer is widely seen as one of the Bhoys’ top stars.
New manager Ange Postecoglu is hoping to keep his best players. But the new Celtic boss also won’t be held to ransom either.
Ajer’s contract expires next summer. And with no sign of a new deal on the table, it’s left Celtic in a tricky situation. Newcastle United are also interested, although they haven’t yet made a confirmed bid.
The Norwegian played 46 times across the entire season last year. Celtic are thought to value him closer to the £16m mark.
A matter of time for Ajer and Celtic?
The writing does seem to be on the wall with this one. Despite Celtic rejecting these early bids, it seems just a matter of time.
It’s little surprise to see Ajer so heavily courted though. He is a class act, and at 23, can improve even further. A Premier League move, or even one to Europe does make sense.
For Celtic, if he does leave, it’s about getting as much money as possible.
£10m is a poor fee really, so they’re right to reject it. But someone will come back with more, it’s just a matter of when, and not if.
