Celtic have told Monaco that they will not be selling Odsonne Edouard after the Ligue 1 side made an enquiry concerning the Frenchman, according to a report from Foot Mercato.
Edouard is enjoying another sensational season at Parkhead. His brace against Ross County on Saturday took his tally for the season to 20 goals in all competitions.
Unsurprisingly, the Hoops seem to have had to address his future in almost every window in recent years. He has established himself as Celtic’s talisman, and the supporters would be forgiven for feeling that his eventual departure is inevitable.
But it does not appear that his exit will come anytime soon.
French outlet Foot Mercato reports that Celtic have rejected an enquiry from Monaco for Edouard this month.
The champions have reportedly told the Principality club that Edouard is not for sale during this window.
TBR View – Essential for Celtic to keep Edouard
It is no surprise that Celtic have made it clear that Edouard is going nowhere.
Leigh Griffiths is now back scoring for the Hoops. But it is surely fair to say that the Bhoys look a much more dangerous side when Edouard is in the team.
Celtic will be aware that they will do well to keep Edouard beyond the next couple of years. But they will be determined to hold onto him for as long as they can.
And in fairness, from the outside, it does not appear that Edouard has any problems with Celtic’s stance. You rarely hear speculation suggesting that he is unhappy or considering his future.
Replacing the Frenchman is going to be an incredibly tough task for Neil Lennon’s side. But their response to Monaco’s interest suggests that it is an issue that they are not thinking about addressing for some time.
