German magazine Kicker have claimed that Celtic are about to table a £5.5million offer in a bid to sign Union Berlin talisman Sebastian Andersson – but could face competition from Leeds, West Brom and Newcastle.
Andersson, 29, starred for Union Berlin last season as he scored 12 Bundesliga goals in 33 appearances – helping the German minnows achieve a surprise 11th-placed finish, when Urs Fischer’s side were expected to go down.
It has seen clubs become interested in the nine-time Sweden international, though. Union’s number 10 is expected to become the subject of a £5.5million offer from Celtic, while an unnamed French side are also set to enter the bidding.
Andersson’s dream move is to join a Premier League side and there are three top-tier clubs looking to bring him to England in the form of Leeds, West Brom and Newcastle. But it appears Celtic are stealing a march.
TBR’s view – Andersson is a bargain at just £5.5million
A release clause in Andersson’s contract is to blame for such a low fee. Had he not had such a clause in his contract, Union would have been forgiven for requesting a fee well above £10million.
Instead, they may wave goodbye to Andersson for a fee as cheap as the aforementioned soon-to-be Celtic bid. If the Hoops can convince Andersson to put his England dream on hold, then he would be a stunning addition.
