Celtic transfer: Hoops reportedly ramp up attempts to sign Tottenham talent
Celtic are ramping up their attempts to sign Tottenham player Cameron Carter-Vickers (Daily Record), but he’ll only check in on one condition.
The Hoops had hoped to add the player on loan, although that sort of deal now seems to be off the table.
Tottenham want to sell the 23-year-old and will only accept a deal that sees them permanently offload the central defender.
Newcastle, Norwich and Bournemouth are both keen too and Ange Postecoglou is facing a fight to sign the defender.
Carter-Vickers is valued at £5 million by Tottenham and Celtic could be provided with a stumbling block.
The centre-back has just a year remaining on his Spurs deal and are keen to finally cash in on the player.
Anderlecht and Club Brugge are also keen on the £20,000-a-week player and he’s set to be a wanted man ahead of the transfer window closing at the end of the month.
Celtic have already been dumped out of the Champions League at the first hurdle. With that in mind, Postecoglou knows he needs reinforcements.
Celtic should pull out the stops for Carter-Vickers
The defender has 113 second-tier games to his name and if Celtic have the spare cash they would be wise to act.
Carter-Vickers is at a nice age and he could still improve in the coming years. He will certainly retain some sell-on value and that makes him an attractive signing.
After their disappointing result in the Champions League, Postecoglou needs to get players into his squad.
Carter-Vickers could help them close the gap to Rangers and would considerably strengthen the team’s back-line.
