Report: Celtic put Reading defender Liam Moore on defensive shortlist

Celtic are reportedly looking at Reading captain Liam Moore as a potential transfer target during this summer window.

According to the Daily Record, the Bhoys have put the 27-year-old on their radar due to the fact manager Neil Lennon is looking for defensive recruitments to the squad.

It is understood that Brighton’s centre-back Shane Duffy remains a target, but due to the strong interest from other Premier League teams Celtic are adding more names to their transfer shortlist.

The report explains that Moore is valued at £4.5million by English championship club Reading, but there could be room for negotiation in that fee and they are looking to offload their high earners because of financial problems.

Scottish champions Celtic look like they could do with another face to compete for the centre-back positions this season and new target Moore looks like he could tick several boxes, as he’s a commanding presence that has become a leader at Reading and a real force in the Championship.

The ex-Leicester man has shown in recent years his quality to be one of the most consistent performers in the Championship and has a no-nonsense approach when it comes to defending, but is comfortable with the ball at his feet too.

TBR’s View:

Celtic may never again find a leader quite like their current captain Scott Brown, but it’s important to have plenty of senior figures driving on a dressing room and that’s exactly what Moore has shown he can do at Reading.

Brighton’s Duffy is someone that has more experience at the top level and is perhaps less of a gamble if they can get that deal over the line, but Moore could be a risk worth taking as the potential is definitely there for him to perform on a bigger stage and at £4.5million could be a bargain.
