Celtic backed away from a move for Jordan Rhodes during the January transfer window, with The Sun on Sunday (23/2; page 63) reporting that Sheffield Wednesday wanted £1 million as a loan fee for the striker.
The Scottish Sun reported in December that Rhodes was on the Hoops’ radar heading into the window. However, the deadline passed with the 30-year-old still at Hillsborough.

And it appears that the Owls’ demands put paid to a potential Parkhead switch.
The Sun on Sunday (23/2; page 63) reports that Wednesday wanted as much as £1 million as a loan fee, while Celtic would have also had to cover his wages.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Bhoys decided to abandon their plans to try and sign the Scotland international. And unfortunately for Rhodes, Celtic have hardly been made to regret their decision.
TBR View – Celtic flying while Rhodes struggles
Neil Lennon’s men have been outstanding since returning from the winter break. They have played 10 games this year, and Thursday’s draw with Copenhagen – which still looks to be a fantastic result – was the first time they had not won.
They have scored 30 goals in those 10 games. So missing out on a striker in January does not appear to have hurt the Hoops.
Rhodes – who cost the Owls £10 million (via BBC Sport) – meanwhile, has not scored since December. He has also not featured for Garry Monk’s men since the end of January.
