Dutch outlet Voetbal International have claimed that Celtic are one of five European sides interested in raiding Ado Den Haag for 20-year-old right-back Milan van Ewijk – with the player now expected to leave his current club in the summer.
Van Ewijk has surpassed expectation for a player of his age, clocking up 37 senior appearances for the Eredivisie outfit. He has a contract with Den Haag until the summer of 2022 – but it is believed a transfer for the young Dutchman will occur soon.
Indeed, the report claims as much – stating Den Haag are keen to hand him a new contract but know the chances are that van Ewijk is going to leave. Five clubs are interested, three of which are from Germany – as well as Celtic and KAA Gent.
Schalke, Hamburger SV and SV Darmstadt are also keen on van Ewijk. The Hoops need a right-back, with Jeremie Frimpong joining Bayer Leverkusen in the January window – while Jonjoe Kenny is only on loan from Everton.
TBR’s view – Van Ewijk would be a decent addition
But like Frimpong, he is pretty much an unknown before potentially joining Celtic. The ex-Manchester City ace was yet to make a senior outing before joining Celtic on a free transfer – but had heaps of potential when moving to Glasgow.
Van Ewijk is much like that, but he has played 37 times at senior level in The Netherlands. So, on paper, he is already more experienced than Frimpong – but if he can be anything like Frimpong was for Celtic, it is a no-brainer for the Hoops.
