Celtic have made an enquiry for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, with Sky Sports reporting that the Serie A side are open to negotiating his £10 million asking price.

The Hoops have already bolstered their defensive ranks this summer. Shane Duffy’s loan move to Parkhead was confirmed this week.

Nevertheless, it appears that Neil Lennon is looking to add further reinforcements before the transfer window closes.

According to Sky Sports, the Hoops have asked about Colley, but it is noted that no bid has been made just yet.

But Sky Sports does suggest that Sampdoria are willing to negotiate their £10 million asking price. That may perhaps hint that Celtic could have an opportunity to agree a deal for a lower fee.

TBR View: Colley could be outstanding signing for Celtic

It remains to be seen if Celtic do confirm their reported interest with a bid, but it would be no surprise if plenty of fans were imploring the Hoops to act.

Colley is a vastly experienced defender who has stepped up in a number of leagues across Europe. That adaptability would suggest that he would have no problem impressing for the Bhoys.

He is also a player who has previously been earmarked as a potential replacement for a former Celtic defender.

ESPN reported in 2016 that Southampton were monitoring Colley as they braced themselves to lose Virgil van Dijk.

With Sampdoria reportedly willing to discuss his asking price, it looks to be a no-brainer for Celtic to make a move in the coming weeks.
