The Daily Record have claimed that Celtic have made initial contact with Steven Fletcher’s agent over a move to lure the free agent to Parkhead this summer – as Neil Lennon desperately tries to sign a new striker.
Fletcher, 33, has spent the past four seasons at Sheffield Wednesday but his contract expired after the end of the Championship campaign. That is, even though Fletcher scored 13 goals in 27 league games last term.
A 33-time Scotland international, Fletcher has a ratio of one goal every three games in the Scottish Premiership. The target man netted 39 goals in 132 league games north of the border – all in the green of Hibernian.
Fletcher has become a target. Albian Ajeti and Ivan Toney have been linked, but Fletcher is on a free and initial contact has been made – as per the Record. Fletcher has also received four offers from the Championship.
Back in 2012, Scott Brown told the Record: “I flip on the TV every week and he always seems to be scoring goals and celebrating. Everyone knew he could do it at Hibs, and I knew he had it in him to shine in the Premier League.”

TBR’s view – Fletcher would be a stunning Celtic signing
Odsonne Edouard has been sensational for Celtic. He looks more than ready to stay and achieve 10 in a row for the Hoops, while Patryk Klimala scored on Sunday after coming off the bench.
But Celtic need a plan B, a different type of striker when Edouard does not work. Fletcher is perfect, with his aerial ability perfect for a side that would see him score goals – and bring the Celtic attackers into the game.
On a free, he is a no-brainer for two years at Celtic.
