Report: Celtic make 22-goal striker their 'main target'

The Gabon Media Times claim that Celtic have made Hatayspor striker Aaron Boupendza their ‘main target’. The Hoops could still do with a new forward as Odsonne Edouard’s future remains in doubt. Boupendza has been added to the Hoops shortlist, after his stunning 20-21 form in Turkey.

Despite being used as a winger in 30 of his 38 appearances during last season, the 16-time Gabon international scored a huge 22 goals. Unsurprisingly, that has caught the attention of numerous European clubs. Lyon, Fiorentina and Watford are all keen – as are Celtic.

The report states that Celtic have made Boupendza is a ‘main target’ for Celtic – but his asking price could see him become a club-record signing. The report claims his price tag is in the region of £10.4million – a lot more than the £9million paid for Edouard during the Brendan Rodgers era.

Is Boupendza a good signing for Celtic?

Putting aside price, of course he is a good signing. He is young, quick, powerful, versatile in the final third and best of all – scores goals. If Celtic sell Odsonne Edouard then he would be a decent replacement. But is he worth north of £10million? Probably not.

The French football crisis Celtic can capitalise on

The Turkish standard of football is woefully bad, in fact, it is getting worse. While there are some big names in Turkey, Mesut Ozil for example, the overall quality is pretty poor. So, while Boupendza has scored 22 goals in a season – his form should not be compared to better leagues.
