Australian outlet World Game have claimed that Celtic are looking to extend the two-year loan deal of Manchester City attacker Daniel Arzani, who has had a nightmare spell since joining the Scottish champions.
Arzani, 20, joined Celtic in the summer of 2018 from Manchester City after Pep Guardiola’s side signed the attacking midfielder from Melbourne City. But after waiting a long time for his Celtic debut, injury struck.
He suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury after just 23 minutes against Dundee, and has since failed to make a senior appearance for the Hoops – waiting on the sidelines for over 12 months. But Celtic are willing to offer him a helping hand.
Indeed, the 2018 World Cup star for Australia is set to see his loan expire at the end of the season. But Celtic are keen to extend that deal by another year – though talks are far from an advanced stage at this point.
TBR’s view – Should Celtic give Arzani another chance?
Celtic have plenty of options other than Arzani, which makes the move to keep the Aussie a slightly surprising one. James Forrest and mo Elyounoussi are currently on fire in the starting line-up.
Behind them, Celtic boast the likes of Lewis Morgan and Marian Shved. Scott Sinclair is expected to leave but he also provides competition – and is above Arzani in the pecking order. But Arzani has impressed Lennon in training.
Whether he will be given regular game time like Patrick Roberts was, while on loan from Manchester City, remains to be seen. But Arzani has got to do a lot to show Celtic that they are not making a mistake.
