Report: Celtic looking to appoint Steve Hitchen in advisory role
Steve Hitchen is close to securing his first role since leaving Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year, with The Sun on Sunday (16/10; page 65) that Celtic are looking to appoint the 45-year-old in an advisory role.
Hitchen is a name who appears to divide Tottenham fans. He became the club’s chief scout in 2017. At the time, Spurs appeared to be in the ascendency under Mauricio Pochettino.
Unfortunately, Tottenham have failed to match the second-place finish in the Premier League achieved in the season in which Hitchen became chief scout.

They did however, reach the Champions League final in 2019.
Ultimately, Daniel Levy brought Fabio Paratici in in 2021. And Paratici has seemingly taken over the role as the key figure working behind the scenes at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Initially, the pair were at the club together. However, Hitchen moved on earlier this year. And it seems that he may soon be getting involved with the Scottish Premiership champions.
The Sun on Sunday (16/10; page 65) reports that Celtic are planning to move to bring Hitchen in as an advisor. Interestingly, he recently went to watch Ange Postecoglou’s side, which would suggest that he is ready to make the switch.
Celtic have done some amazing work in the market over the last couple of years. They revitalised what appeared to be a squad which had been growing stale.
The Hoops obviously have to be smart in the market. They cannot compete financially for the best players in Europe. But they have undoubtedly uncovered some gems.
The likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota and Matt O’Riley have all proved to be masterstroke additions for the club. And those kind of deals set the platform for another spell of Celtic dominance.
Celtic may be hoping that Hitchen’s potential arrival may help strengthen their grip on the summit of Scottish football.
