Report: Celtic have been leading the race for 30-goal striker, but there's been a shock twist
Celtic were reportedly confident of landing Charlie Wyke a month ago.
However, it looks as though the Bhoys are going to miss out on the 28-year-old.
The Northern Echo reported in June that Celtic were optimistic about getting Wyke from Sunderland.
The Hoops held initial talks with the player and his representatives, and were planning to make a formal offer.
Wyke has now left the Stadium of Light, but rather than joining Celtic, he looks set for Wigan.
The Northern Echo has now reported that the former Black Cats man is going to pen a £10,000-a-week at the League One club.
The outlet claims Celtic were leading the race for his services for most of the summer.
However, Wigan are understood to have tabled an “unexpectedly lucrative” offer in the last few days, they added.
Now, Wyke is reportedly set to pen a contract at the English third-tier club for “a significant upgrade” on what Sunderland were offering.
Wyke registered an impressive 30 goals and five assists in all competitions last term, including 25 goals in League One.
Celtic could do with bolstering their attacking ranks after a dismal season last time out, but it looks like they’ll have to look elsewhere now.
