Portuguese outlet A Bola claim that Celtic have joined both West Ham United and Southampton in the race to sign Boavista star Alberth Elis. The Honduras international is impressing in Portuguese football and attracting interest from these shores. It is believed he will cost around £8.5million.

Elis, 25, joined Boavista last summer from MLS outfit Houston Dynamo after scoring 35 goals and laying on 28 assists in 101 outings. That impressive form has continued despite a big improvement in the opposition he is facing. Featuring in 31 Liga NOS games, he had a hand in 15 goals.

Such form has caught the attention of Premier League clubs – with West Ham and Southampton eyeing a deal for the versatile attacker. Elis, who boasts bags of pace, has three years left on his Boavista deal but that has not deterred either Premier League club. Now, A Bola say Celtic are also keen.

Elis would be a stunning signing for Celtic, if they can beat West Ham

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou needs to work fast when it comes to the transfer window. The Champions League qualifying rounds will soon arrive and the Hoops needs additions all over the park. Goalkeeper, right-back, centre-back, left-back, central midfield, wingers and a striker.

They all need one, if not two arrivals. Bringing in players that are versatile would ease those concerns and Elis would be ideal. He can play on either flank and up front. While he would be a pricy purchase, he would be a brilliant addition for Celtic and Postecoglou.
