Honduran website La Prensa have claimed that Scottish champions Celtic are rivalling clubs from Italy, Portugal and the MLS to sign Olimpia striker Jorge Benguche this summer.
Benguche, 24, has caught admiring glances from European and MLS clubs after he netted in the CONCACAF Champions League against Thierry Henry’s Montreal Impact – says before football grounded to a halt.
Benguche, a Honduras international, stands at a lofty 6ft 2in is renowned for his explosive speed and power. Since joining Olimpia, he has scored 33 goals – and netted a brace on his international debut.
Celtic have options up front, but Odsonne Edouard’s future is in doubt. Patryk Klimala and Vakoun Bayo are yet to prove themselves after big-money moves, while Leigh Griffiths has returned to form.
Celtic are not alone in their pursuit of Benguche, though. Italian club Bologna and Portuguese outfit Belenenses are also keen, as are clubs from the MLS.

TBR’s view – Celtic need to sign a proven striker
Benguche is not that. Right now, Celtic do not need a striker at all. If Edouard departs, the Scottish side then need to go out and spend big on a proven striker that can guarantee Neil Lennon’s side goals.
Right now, Benguche cannot guarantee goals – given he is yet to be proven at a decent level and his international career consists of just three caps and two goals against Puerto Rico. Benguche should be monitored, but he is not needed.
