Celtic are reportedly admirers of forward Ivan Saponjic at Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

According to Sky Sports, the Bhoys would consider a move for the 23-year-old if they lose a striker in the summer transfer window, but they are doing everything they can to keep talisman Odsonne Edouard.

It is understood that Neil Lennon’s side do like Saponjic as a possible option if they need to look for a new frontman, but Premier League outfit Crystal Palace are monitoring him at present.

The report explains that the Serbian attacker is open to exiting Atletico for a move to the UK, as his minutes in Spain were scarce last season.

Celtic are currently reeling from their elimination on Wednesday night from the Champions League qualifiers, which has got many discussing the potential loss of their main players such as Edouard.

It’s unclear on if the Scottish giants will be in pursuit of a new striker this summer, but Saponjic is an intriguing potential target that did enough to attract the eye of Champions League regulars Atletico.

He was a fringe player with Atletico during the 2019/20 season by making just three appearances across all competitions, but was around their first-team squad and is still aged just 23.

The Serbian is a powerful striker that has previously impressed with FK Partizan Belgrade and SV Zulte Waregem, but it looks like he now wants a settled home where he can enjoy regular first-team action.
