Report: Celtic in talks to extend 23-year-old's contract
Celtic have opened talks with Greg Taylor over a new contract at Parkhead, according to a report from the Daily Record.
What’s the story?
Taylor’s current terms with the Hoops end in 2023. The Scotland international has been on the same deal since arriving from Kilmarnock in 2019.
He has had a difficult time with the Bhoys. Taylor has come in for plenty of criticism from supporters having struggled to really prove himself.
Nevertheless, Celtic clearly see a long-term future at the club for the Scotland international.
According to the Daily Record, talks over a new deal are already underway. It is suggested that Taylor is set for a pay-rise. And he could end up extending his stay by up to three years.
Greg Taylor has plenty to prove as Celtic eye agreeing new contract
Celtic have plenty of options at left-back. However, it does appear that Taylor is Ange Postecoglou’s favourite in that role right now.
He is currently out with a shoulder injury. But he had been a mainstay of the side before undergoing surgery.
And clearly, Postecoglou has a lot of confidence in Taylor. It is not essential that Celtic get his future resolved right now, with more than 18 months left on his contract.
It seems more than likely that a lot of supporters will not be best pleased to see Taylor being offered a new contract.
He has not managed to silence his doubters during his time with the Hoops.
So it now appears essential that he hits the ground running when he returns with the news that Celtic are ready to tie him down.
