Celtic are reportedly in talks with Leicester over signing defender Filip Benkovic, according to Sky Sports.
The 23-year-old, who was on loan at Parkhead during the 2018-19 season, is thought to be surplus to Brendan Rodgers’ requirements this term.
Leicester are reportedly prepared to listen to offers for Benkovic, while Celtic are said to be interested in bringing the Croatia international back to the club.
Christopher Jullien’s knee injury has forced Celtic into the market to source a replacement, and the Bhoys would prefer on a loan deal with an option to buy.
Benkovic, who joined Leicester from Dinamo Zagreb in 2018, spent part of this season on loan at Cardiff City, but was recalled on Wednesday after just one appearance for the Bluebirds.
During his spell at Celtic, playing under Rodgers, he made 27 appearances in all competitions, claiming three goal contributions, and lifted the Scottish Premiership, Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup.
Just last week, Rodgers spoke out about Benkovic’s current issues, saying he needs to get more game time and show the level he can play at.
“I’ve seen the level,” he told the Scottish Sun. “When he was with me at Celtic he played against RB Leipzig and he was sensational.”
Given Benkovic knows Celtic well, will have a point to prove after a tough year, and the Hoops need centre-back reinforcements, he could be a good shout for Neil Lennon’s side.
