The Daily Mail have claimed that Celtic are interested in signing Rapid Vienna left-back Boli Mbombo this summer, as Kieran Tierney continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal.

Celtic have reportedly rejected two bids from Arsenal for Tierney, the first being a £15million offer. It is believed that The Hoops are holding out for a figure of £25million for the Scotland international.

But with Arsenal intent on signing the Celtic academy product, Neil Lennon has identified Mbombo – a cousin of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku – as a replacement for Tierney this summer.

It is believed a £3million fee will be enough to land Mbombo, who has excelled during his two seasons in Austria with Vienna. In 73 outings, he has scored three goals and laid on 10 assists.

TBR’s view – is Mbombo good enough to replace Tierney at Celtic?

Certainly, Mbombo is more than capable of shining at the top level, and has plenty of experience in European competition. He has clocked up 30 appearances in the Europa League and the Champions League.

At £3million, Mbombo is a bargain and there is plenty of resale value, given that he is still only 23 years of age. More than willing to get forward and able to score of lay on assist, Mbombo is similar to Tierney in style.

But whether he is as good as Tierney remains to be seen.
