The Daily Record reports that Postecoglou is the clear frontrunner for the job. It is claimed that they remain confident that they will appoint the 55-year-old.

But Celtic are seemingly keeping their options open. And according to the Daily Record, they have held tentative talks with Faria.

As noted by the Record, Mourinho previously claimed that he is ready to manage at the highest level.

Faria move would be gamble as Celtic search for next manager

Faria boasts an incredibly impressive CV as an assistant boss, working with Mourinho up until leaving Manchester United in 2018.

And he did go on to win the league title during his brief spell in Qatar.

But a move from Celtic for Faria would arguably be a potential gamble given his lack of experience as a number one.

In some ways, parallels could be drawn between Faria and current Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

Arteta recently stepped out on his own after working under another of the most influential coaches in modern football in Pep Guardiola.

However, his time at Arsenal has delivered mixed results. He did win the FA Cup. But there remain doubts about whether he is the right man to take the club forward.

Admittedly, there are some clear differences.

Arteta spent a lot less time working with Guardiola than Faria had with Mourinho.

But his time at the Emirates does highlight the gamble clubs still take when appointing figures much better known as assistant managers.
