Italian website Area Napoli claim that Celtic have seen a £4.3million bid rejected for Hajduk Split teen Mario Vuskovic ahead of the summer window – but only need another £1million to reach the Croatian side’s asking price.

Vuskovic, 19, has impressed with his boyhood club in Croatia – breaking into the senior side and clocking up 38 appearances for Hajduk. But bigger European clubs are becoming interested, with Napoli leading the race for him.

The report claims that both Celtic and Torino have seen £4.3million bids rejected for five-time Croatia Under-21 defender – with Napoli remaining interested in a move for the defender. Hajduk want a fee of £5.3million.

Hajduk also want a clause included in the deal that is between 10% and 15% of a potential future sale. The youngster has been compared with Serie A stars Matthijs de Ligt who is impressing at Juventus – and Inter’s Milan Skriniar.

TBR’s view – Vuskovic a proper talent, Napoli interest is proof

For Napoli to be willing to sign a player that is relatively unproven at senior level – and certainly in terms of proper European competition – shows just how much the club’s scouts have been impressed with his performances.

If Celtic are willing to table a bid of more than £4million to sign him, then surely they can afford to bump that up slightly more. At £5.3million, they are signing a player that has enormous potential and massive resale value.
