Celtic could be set for a massive boost to their hopes of keeping Kristoffer Ajer, with AC Milan now said to be prioritising a move for Fiorentina defender, Nikola Milenkovic.
According to a report from the Daily Record, it is believed that Milan are now focussing fully on landing Milenkovic, who is said to be valued at around the £40m mark by Fiorentina.
That has, inevtiably, put a move for Ajer on hold for the time being, despite Milan being heavily-linked with the Norwegian defender throughout the summer.
It is now claimed that Ajer will only move to Milan if they cannot cement a deal for Milenkovic. The Serie A giants are not keen on signing both and could well leave Ajer alone if they do land their number on target.
Ajer is a key figure at Parkhead and manager Neil Lennon has been open in his admissions about wanting to keep the big defender.
Indeed, in the same report, Lennon is quoted as backing up his desire to keep Ajer, insisting a suppoosed £14m offer from Milan ‘may not be enough to get it done’.

It’s looked all summer like the Bhoys would probably lose their key defender but these emerging reports offer some hope.
Milan seem to be messing about a lot in this transfer window, with a whole host of different names mentioned in terms of being linked with a move to Italy.
It looks like that could well aid Celtic here, who will be desperate to keep Ajer. If they do keep him, then Neil Lennon will more confident than ever of making it ten in a row this season.
