Report: Celtic face major battle if they want to sign 18-year-old prodigy compared to Sadio Mane

A player linked with Neil Lennon’s Celtic last year has now emerged as a target for a side in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Back in November, 90min reported that the Hoops were in the race for FC Copenhagen attacker Mohammed Daramy, challenging Liverpool for his signature.

The 18-year-old has claimed seven goals and five assists in 32 appearances this season, and his speed and versatility across the Danes’ front line have seemingly alerted him to the continent’s scouts.

Primarily a centre forward, Daramy – who came through the ranks at Copenhagen – is equally as comfortable on both wings, and the majority of his opportunities this season have come on the right flank.

German outlet Bild have now claimed that Bundesliga high-flyers RB Leipzig want to sign Daramy, and have made him one of the top three targets to replace star striker Timo Werner should he move on this summer.

“In terms of comparing him to other players, he’s quick, a good dribbler, and a goal threat,” Danish football journalist Anders Dehn told HITC.

“He can play on either the wing or as a centre forward. I don’t want to say that he’s the next Sadio Mane but as a type he’s similar I think.”

With Celtic potentially sweating over the future of Odsonne Edouard, Lennon could be looking at replacements, and although Daramy is young, he has shown he’s more than capable at first-team level.

However, RB Leipzig have done superbly this season, having vied with Bayern Munich for top spot in the league much of this campaign and currently five points behind in the table, as well as reaching the last eight of the Champions League.

They, along with Liverpool and fellow reported suitors Borussia Dortmund and “almost half of the sides currently in the Premier League” (90min), will likely give Celtic a battle if they are to secure his signature.
