Report: Celtic eye Rekeem Harper and West Brom teammate on loan
Celtic are interested in signing Rekeem Harper and Kyle Edwards on loan from West Bromwich Albion during the January transfer window, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (20/12; page 65).
January looks set to be a pivotal month for Neil Lennon. Their last two results have perhaps provided reason for very cautious optimism. But there is no doubt that they have a huge task ahead if they want to win their tenth league title in a row.
New faces coming in next month would potentially hand the Bhoys a boost. And it appears that Nick Hammond is looking to one of his former clubs for two targets.
According to The Sun on Sunday (20/12; page 65), Celtic want both Harper and Edwards on loan.
The pair have made one Premier League start between them so far this season. However, that may potentially count for little when it comes to their January statuses.
West Brom, of course, are gearing up for their first game under Sam Allardyce. So every player on the periphery of the squad may be hoping to force their way into his plans.
Should Harper and Edwards remain on the sidelines, perhaps they will be interested in joining Celtic.
Celtic fans may have their concerns. The pair are incredibly talented. And Harper was a player on the Hoops’ radar back in 2019 when his contract at the Hawthorns was running down (via Daily Mail). It was even suggested that he attended a Celtic game and was given a tour of the club.
But it would be a huge ask to expect the pair to play prominent roles in guiding Celtic back into the driving seat in the title race.
And if there is no chance of permanent moves, Celtic would surely be better off prioritising other targets.
