Report: Celtic eye Greek attacker for £2.5m, Postcoglou has been on the phone to convince him

The Daily Record claim that Celtic are in talks to sign Greece international Georgios Giakoumakis from Dutch Eredivisie side VVV-Venlo. The striker was in stunning form for his side last season, scoring a huge 29 goals in 33 games. But after relegation, Giakoumakis wants to go and Celtic are in talks.

The 26-year-old amassed an enormous 26 goals in the Eredivisie but even that failed to prevent Venlo from suffering relegation. The six-time Greece star is in the final 12 months of his contract at Venlo and wants to move. Celtic are in talks, with Ange Postecoglou making a personal phone call.

It is believed the Celtic gaffer has personally made moves to lure Giakoumakis to Parkhead. He will cost just £2.5million, a bargain given the number 99’s incredible form last term. The player himself is happy with Postecoglou’s approach, and the potential to lead Celtic’s attack.

Giakoumakis represents the signing of the summer for Celtic

As the Record themselves point out, Donyell Malen moved from PSV to Borussia Dortmund for £26million despite scoring less goals. He scored less goals in a side that were pushing for the title – not a team that eventually succumbed to relegation. So, for any European side, £2.5m is a bargain.

Celtic have got to do everything they can to sign Giakoumakis. If they do get a deal over the line for the Greek attacker, then they will be completing their signing of the summer – better than Kyogo Furuhashi, Joe Hart and others. This is, potentially, an enormous coup.
