The Scottish Daily Mail (September 23, page 86) – as per the Scottish Sun – that Celtic are keeping tabs on Barcelona winger Alex Collado and are looking to bring him on loan to Parkhead, but face enormous European competition.
Collado, 21, is highly-rated at Barcelona after breaking into the senior side on two occasions and earning a Spain Under-19 cap. However, he has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Nou Camp, and the race for his signature is hotting up.
The report claims Collado is not in Koeman’s plans and Barcelona are ready to listen to offers for the winger, who boasts the same agent as Antoine Griezmann – as per TransferMarkt. That is, despite having a hand in 10 goals last season for the B-team.
Barcelona are looking to raise funds and Collado is expected to be a casualty – though Celtic want to take the winger on loan initially. They face competition from Villarreal, Torino and Werder Bremen.
TBR’s view – Collado would be a stunning Celtic addition
Celtic need wingers. Mo Elyounoussi has returned to the club on loan from Southampton, while James Forrest remains a crucial part of the side. Mikey Johnston is also an option, but the Hoops need another option out wide.
Collado – who has plenty of pace, trickery and the ability to score and create – is clearly a proper talent to have broken into Barcelona’s senior team. The Daily Star claimed he could be Lionel Messi’s replacement last season, which says it all.
