The Scottish Sun have claimed that Celtic’s board do have an interest in RedBull Salzburg manager Jesse Marsch just days after he labelled the Hoops job as “interesting” – but he remains contracted to Salzburg until June 2022.
Marsch, 47, has earned plenty of plaudits for his work at Salzburg. Turning the team into a conveyor belt, he has brought through the likes of Erling Haaland, Takumi Minamino and more recently, Dominik Szoboszlai. He is very highly-rated.
Having clocked up more than 150 matches as New York Red Bulls manager, Marsch has since climbed the Red Bull ladder. He joined Leipzig as assistant, before moving to Salzburg in the summer of 2019 – managing 82 games since his arrival.
In his first season, Marsch won the double – and sit five points clear at the top of the table after 21 games right now. The Sun claim that the Celtic board are interested, and are ‘admirers’ of the American. He is quoted by the Sun as saying:
“Obviously, I know that when you’re the coach of Celtic, winning is the most important thing,” Marsch said, earlier this week. “I know enough about it to say, of course, it’s interesting. But I also have a job to do here.”

TBR’s view – Marsch would be a stunning appointment for Celtic
Tactically brilliant, Marsch’s man-management skills and work on the training ground have maximised the potential of the young talent that Salzburg boast – helping them gain top dollar. It is a somewhat similar job to the Celtic role.
While Celtic do have plenty of elder talent and do not rely so much on younger players, recruitment is also important. They need to bring in bargain signings and sell them on for larger fees – Jeremie Frimpong the latest example.
Marsch has shown he can do that – and he has also shown he can take charge of a side expected to win every match. He is perfect for the Celtic role and should be right at the top of the Scottish side’s agenda.
