Reports in Italy are suggesting that AC Milan may struggle to afford Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer this summer.
The Norwegian defender is being linked with a move away from Celtic this summer after his agent admitted a move away from Parkhead was the player’s current priority.
It led to speculation linking Ajer with a number of clubs, including the Italian giants.
CalcioMercato is now suggesting that Milan are indeed keen on a deal for the player, but could find themselves struggling to afford Celtic’s asking price. It is claimed the Scottish champions will ask for a ‘rather high sum’ before negotiations over a transfer can take place.
They claim it will be a major obstacle for Milan chief Ivan Gazidis, who wants to bring in talented younger talents at the San Siro this summer, Ajer fitting that bill.

The report does not mention the fee Celtic are wanting for Ajer but previous reports (Sporten) have suggested the Bhoys would be looking at a fee in the region of €30 million (£26m) for the 22-year-old midfield convert.
In the current climate, that does appear a steep sum for Milan, who are no longer the big-spenders they once were.
Leicester City are also credited with interest by the same report, where Ajer would reunite with his former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers.
Of course, Celtic fans would love their club to keep hold of the Norwegian rather than sell him on but it is nice to hear that the Bhoys are not going to bend to the will of interested clubs at a price below their valuation.
