Celtic will send Andrew Gutman back out on loan, according to FC Cincinnati’s official website.

Gutman has been on loan with FC Cincinnati, playing eight times and providing one assist. Now, fccincinnati.com has revealed that Gutman will return for the 2020 season.

This lasts from March until November 2020. Even though his current loan spell just expired (at the end of the 2019 MLS season), Gutman will head back to the United States for pre-season.

The 23-year-old joined Celtic earlier this year from Chicago FC United. He was sent straight back to America, where he joined Charlotte Independence. But after playing 14 games (and scoring three goals), he switched to FC Cincinnati.

Gutman told FC Cincinnati’s official website: “[Celtic are] in season, but they have such a big squad, so the guys that aren’t rostered for games will have training sessions. I’ll have a good stint of training over there with them just to get back in front of their faces and [show] them my qualities again.”

Gutman needs to be playing regularly to show Neil Lennon why he has a future at Celtic. This is a long-term project and the American left-back now has a battle on his hands.

In the summer, Celtic signed Boli Bolingoli and Greg Taylor. The path to the starting left-back spot is blocked at the moment but Gutman could be a different player in 12 months’ time.
