Report: Celtic could lose key player linked with Arsenal for nothing in January
Ryan Christie could be set to leave Celtic for nothing in January.
In January, 90min reported that Arsenal, Newcastle, Southampton, Brighton, Leicester City and Burnley were all interested in the 26-year-old, but he wasn’t expected to be available until the end of the 2021/22 season.
As reported on page 156 of the Mail on Sunday, however, the contract extension signed by Christie in 2018 lasts only until January 2022.
That means he can sign a pre-contract agreement in July.
Christie was brought to Celtic by Ronny Deila in 2015 from Caley Thistle, where he stayed on a season-long loan before returning to Celtic.
He was then sent out on loan to Aberdeen for two seasons, before making his breakthrough at Celtic in the 2018/19 season.
He’s gone on to become a first-team regular, scoring a total of 41 goals in 139 appearances for the club.
As reported by Record Sport, Christie was a target for Ligue 1 side Nice in 2020.
The Scotland international is not the only Celtic player whose future remains unclear, with Odsonne Edouard widely expected to leave the club this summer.
Celtic are next in action on Sunday May 2 when they take on Rangers at Ibrox in the Premiership.
