Report: Celtic close to signing Osaze Urhoghide
Celtic appear to be closing in on their next signing, with The Star reporting that they are edging towards a deal for Osaze Urhoghide.
The 20-year-old has been linked with a host of sides in recent times. Previous reports suggested that Leeds United and Crystal Palace wanted the Sheffield Wednesday starlet.
The Star notes that there continues to be Premier League interest in Urhoghide. But those top-flight admirers are seemingly about to miss out.
According to The Star, Celtic are closing in on a deal for the defender, who is out of contract with the Owls this summer.
It is suggested that the Hoops have persuaded Urhoghide that they are the right club for his development.
Should he move, he will become the second player to swap Wednesday for Parkhead this year. Liam Shaw’s switch was confirmed earlier this year.
Coup for Celtic as Urhoghide signing reportedly nears
It looks to be a real coup for Celtic. Urhoghide looks to have an incredibly bright future ahead.
He made 16 appearances in the Championship last season. He predominantly played at centre-back, but he also featured in both full-back roles.
Ange Postecoglou certainly needs greater depth all over the backline. They look particularly short of options at right-back.
But the expiration of loan deals affects them at right-back, left-back and centre-back. So Postecoglou has plenty of work to do before the Hoops kick off the new campaign.
Fortunately, it appears that one signing may be close.
