The Independent have claimed that Celtic can sign Mo Elyounoussi for a bargain £10million in the January transfer window after a stunning start to life in Glasgow, while on loan from Premier League side Southampton.
Elyounoussi, 25, has made a stunning start to life at Celtic – after a poor 2018-19 campaign with Southampton. He joined the Saints for £16million in the summer of 2018, but managed only 19 appearances for the Saints in his debut season.
The Norway international failed to score or provide an assist, and it saw the Saints ship the winger out on loan to Celtic. Since joining Neil Lennon’s Scottish champions, he has scored seven goals and created six more in 12 appearances.
It is believed Elyounoussi is earning a whopping £70,000-a-week (Independent) at Southampton – a figure which is far beyond Celtic’s wage structure. The 10million permanent fee, though, is something Celtic could be willing to spend.
TBR’s view – Should Celtic shatter their club-record fee for Elyounoussi?
If his first 12 appearances are anything to go on, Celtic simply have to spend the 10million necessary to bring Elyounoussi to Parkhead beyond the end of the season. He has given Celtic fans hope that 10 in a row will not be stopped.
With Scott Sinclair struggling for game time under Lennon, while Lewis Morgan, Mikey Johnstone and Marian Shved are all awaiting a run of game, keeping Elyounoussi is crucial. Celtic spent £9million to sign Odsonne Edouard.
But for just £1million more, signing Elyounoussi would continue Celtic’s dominance over Rangers for years.
