Report: Celtic beaten in bid to land wonderkid

The Scottish Sun have claimed that Celtic have missed out at the eleventh hour to sign Croatian wonderkid Luka Ivanusec, instead choosing to join Dinamo Zagreb.

It is believed Celtic had agreed a £4.5million fee with Lokomotiv Zagreb for Ivanusec, who is already a fully-fledged Croatia international – and even scored against China back in January.

They had beaten Greek side Olympiakos to his signature and a move was said to be close, before Dinamo Zagreb made a late move to land the player – and it appears that Zagreb will win the race.

That is because the attacking midfielder – who has already had a hand in three goals during his first three games – wants to remain in his home country, with Zagreb offering the youngster the chance to do just that.

TBR’s view – Ivanusec a talent, but do Celtic need him?

There is no doubt Ivanusec would have been a good signing for Celtic, but Neil Lennon needs players that can take Celtic to nine and 10 in a row – rather than having to develop players.

The Hoops need players in their prime – ones that can break into the side straight away and provide celtic with the tools required to prove competitive in the Europa League – and win the league title.

Ivanusec is a talent, but he is not what Celtic need.
