Celtic are battling against Sheffield United and Leicester City for the signature of Wigan Athletic youngster Kyle Joseph, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (12/7; page 61).
The Sun on Sunday has suggested that Wigan could soon offload a number of players. The Championship side recently entered administration, and the report has claimed that they are looking to raise £5 million for next month.
Joseph appears to be one player who could move on. The 18-year-old is yet to make his first-team debut for the Latics.
However, that has not stopped a number of top flight sides taking an interest.
The Sun on Sunday (12/7; page 61) reports that Leicester and the Blades want the striker, but Celtic are also monitoring his situation.
TBR View: Opportunity for Celtic to make a further statement
Celtic have produced some real coups in the transfer market in recent times when it comes to young players.
Of course, the most significant example is surely Moussa Dembele. But there are other players such as Jeremie Frimpong and Luca Connell currently at the club who appear to have incredibly bright futures ahead of them.
That should surely encourage Celtic that they can go and beat the Premier League pair to Joseph’s signature.
Leicester and Sheffield United would almost certainly be naive to write the Hoops off if they all make a move for Joseph in the near future.
