Report: Celtic and Rangers keen on signing South American, £7.5m price tag

Peruvian outlet Libero claim that Celtic and Rangers are both looking to sign Benevento striker Gianluca Lapadula this summer. The report says both Glasgow clubs are in talks over a move to sign the Peru international. It is believed a move to land Lapadula will cost a huge £7.5million.

Lapadula, 31, was impressive in the top tier of Italian football last season – scoring eight goals and laying on five assists in a side that were relegated. That form continued in this summer’s Copa America, as Lapadula played a brilliant part in Peru’s dark horse performance.

Peru reached the semi-finals, and Lapadula scored four goals throughout the tournament. That form has caught the attention of numerous clubs. The latest two to be in talks are Celtic and Rangers. The report claims both will go head to head, with Benevento requestion £7.5million.

Lapadula is excellent, but expensive at 31 amid Celtic and Rangers talks

Lapadula is a top, top striker. To produce 13 goal involvements in a side that went down and only scored 40 all season, is highly impressive. For any normal club, £7.5million for Lapadula is a no brainer. But with finances tight in Scottish football, that is a lot of money for a player of 31 years.

What Has Gone RIGHT At West Ham United?

If Celtic and Rangers can reduce that asking price to around £5million to £6million, then they are getting a much better deal for Lapadula. Whether that is possible, time will tell. But whichever club gets to sign Lapadula, will be getting a striker that can hit the ground running.
