Belgian outlet VoetbalNieuws have claimed that Zulte Waregem will allow Saido Berahino to leave their club after just one season if they receive offers worth £2.7million – amid reported interest from Celtic and Rangers.
Berahino, 26, has got his career back on track in Belgium after joining Zulte last summer. The 12-time Burundi international has had a hand in 11 goals during his 22 appearances – scoring eight and laying on three assists.
Back during his time at West Brom in the Premier League, Berahino was on the verge of becoming an England international and almost joined Tottenham. But question marks over his attitude has seen his career dwindle.
Perhaps having learned from those glaring mistakes, Berahino could be starting to turn his potential into proven quality. Certainly, TEAMtalk recently claimed that Celtic and Rangers are keen on bringing him back to the UK.
Now, the latest report states that Zulte will let him go for a bargain fee in the region of £2.7million – or €3million.
TBR’s view – Is Berahino worth the risk?
Still only a youngster, Berahino netted 14 Premier League goals in one season for West Brom during 2014-15. At such a young age, to do that was incredibly impressive – and it was of little surprise that Spurs were keen.
But to make it to the top level, quality must be combined with attitude and application. Now, at Zulte, perhaps Berahino is beginning to show that having made a number of mistakes which saw him forced to leave England.
Glimpses of the old Berahino are back. At such a tiny fee, he is worth taking a risk on.
