Celtic and Rangers are both reportedly interested in a move for midfielder Renato Tapia from Dutch top-flight club Feyenoord.

According to Voetbal International, Neil Lennon’s Celtic are particularly keen on the 24-year-old.

But it is understood that they will face competition from Old Firm rivals Rangers for his signature.

The report details that Feyenoord would like to sell Tapia during the January transfer window for a fee, as his contract with them expires at the end of the season.

Tapia started the campaign as a regular for Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord in the early stages of the season, but has lost his spot in recent times.

The Peru international is a South American enforcer that has already earned 47 senior caps for his country, which is a huge amount at his age.

He is a defensive midfielder that breaks up play and is good on the ball, but is available this month to transfer.

TBR’s View:

Rangers have seen Tapia first-hand this season in a Europa League group stage fixture and he played 90 minutes in a defeat to the Scottish giants.

But there is a strong case to suggest that Celtic need to bolster their midfield more than Rangers and that the Feyenoord star should be a priority.

He has the potential to be a decent player in the Scottish top-flight if given a chance and that could well happen in the second half of the season.
