Peterborough United’s director of football Barry Fry has told the Daily Mail – as per the Scottish Sun – that agents have informed him both Celtic and Rangers are ‘very interested’ in signing goal machine Ivan Toney.
Toney has been in sensational form for the Posh this season, scoring 26 times in just 39 league and cup appearances – as well as creating seven goals. In 94 Posh games, Toney has had a hand in 64 strikes.
Little surprise then, that he is valued in the region of £15million. The chances of Peterborough keeping their star man are unlikely after the EFL chose to end the League One season, with the Posh missing out on a play-off place.
Fry spoke openly and honestly that agents have informed him both Glasgow clubs are keen on Toney but made it clear that Steven Gerrard and Neil Lennon would have to blow away previous club-record deals to get Toney.

“I’ve had agents on telling me that Rangers and Celtic are very interested,” Fry told the Mail, as per The Sun. “But I haven’t had any calls from either Rangers or Celtic, personally.
“If they have any sense, they’ll pay us £15million to get him. If they haven’t any sense at all, then I won’t be hearing from them,” Fry continued, seemingly urging both Scottish sides to table an offer.
TBR’s view – Toney a goalscoring machine, but Celtic or Rangers?
Toney has proved with his 26 goals and seven assists this season that lasts season was not a fluke, in which he netted 23 times and created another eight. Two sensational seasons has seen his value soar.
It must be remembered, though, that these goals have come at League One level. Plenty of Championship players have gone to Celtic and failed. Toney is young, English and getting better – but £15million is steep.
If Celtic or Rangers could arrange a fee in the region of £10-£12million, then the signing of Toney would make more sense.
