Celtic and Nottingham Forest are seemingly set to miss out on signing Billy Sharp this month, with the Daily Mirror reporting that the striker plans to stay at Sheffield United beyond January.
Sharp’s future looked to have a question mark hanging over it. He has made just one Premier League start this season, while he has come off the bench on 10 occasions.
The Mirror reports that Chris Wilder had left the door open for the club captain to leave if he wanted to. But it appears that Sharp has shut that door himself.
The Mirror suggests that the 33-year-old has decided that he wants to stay at Bramall Lane until at least the end of the season.
That is set to leave the likes of Celtic and Forest disappointed, with the report noting that the pair were interested in signing Sharp this month.
TBR View – Blow for Celtic and Forest
Celtic and Forest are arguably looking for icing on the cake signings this month. They are both in fantastic positions in their respective leagues. The Hoops top the Scottish Premiership, while Sabri Lamouchi’s men are nicely poised in the Championship.
But signing Sharp could have been a fantastic piece of business. He scored 23 goals in the second tier last season. And it would have been no surprise if they were not the only sides interested had it become apparent that he wanted to leave.
But it appears that Sharp is staying put. And Celtic and Forest are now going to need to look elsewhere.
