Report: Celtic and Newcastle in race to sign Tottenham player for just £5m
The Daily Record claim that Celtic are in talks to sign Tottenham Hotspur powerhouse Cameron Carter-Vickers. It is believed that while Newcastle and Bournemouth are also keen on the USA international, he wants to join Celtic this summer. A fee of £5million is said to be enough to get him.
Carter-Vickers, 23, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Tottenham. Coming through the academy at Tottenham, he has managed four senior appearances for the North London club – but has instead preferred to go on loan. He has just finished his sixth loan spell.
Previously turning out for Swansea, Stoke City, Sheffield United, Luton Town and Ipswich – he recently impressed at Bournemouth under Jonathan Woodgate. Now, he could move north of the border. Talks are underway with Celtic and the USA star is keen on a move to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Tottenham outcast Carter-Vickers the ideal signing for Celtic
Where Shane Duffy struggled at Celtic last season was that the Ireland international lacks pace. Celtic dominate the ball and press teams into their own half. It means that opposition counter, and a ball over the top exposes space. Celtic need quick defenders and Carter-Vickers is just that.
Not only is he quick, but he is powerful, strong and dominant in the air. Six loans in the Championship has developed his game. While he has learnt the ball-playing attributes at Spurs, he has added the steely, powerful style of England’s second tier. At £5million, he has everything Celtic need.
Alongside Christopher Jullien, it gives Celtic the defensive platform to go on and improve on last season’s second-placed finish.
