Argentinian side River Plate are willing to sell Everton-linked midfielder Santiago Sosa. According to TyC Sports, River Plate will sanction the sale of Sosa to raise some much-needed funds.
The Argentina U20 international is a highly-rated young midfielder but River Plate need to sell their prized starlet to balance the books.
Sosa has a €15m release clause (around £13m) and this is not too far off Everton’s valuation of the player. This deal now looks like it has received the green light ahead of the summer.
The 20-year-old has already played some senior football despite his young age. Sosa has played five matches for River Plate, including four in the Primera Division this season.
He operates predominantly as a defensive midfielder. However, he can also play further forward as a conventional central midfielder.
Obtaining a work permit for Sosa could be a potential stumbling block. Because he does not have an EU passport, Everton would need clearance before they sign him.
But Sosa is set to feature for Argentina’s youth team at the U20 World Cup in the summer. And this could help facilitate a move to Everton by strengthening his case for a work permit.
